- Thirteen years ago, a group of Mayan women from the village of Santiago Zamora got together to form this association. Their purpose is to improve education and health care in their village. They work together, designing and producing traditional weaving and other products, which they sell during tours that they organize for visitors to their village.
- Hilda, the founder of the association, gave up one of the rooms in her house to serve as a medical clinic for the village. Felomena, the president, used her home for the village tours for more than 2 years and Angela, a member of the organization, allowed the association to use her land to construct their handicraft and tour center.
- At least 10% of the profit is contributed to an education fund and an extra percentage is used to buy medicine. The rest goes directly to the women who produce the items.
- Since the association formed, they have helped many children and families with school registration, school material, medicine and food. And through their advocacy, 6 families have received houses from Constru Casa Association.
